How to Become a CEO

I have a juicy, dirty, secret to tell you. Do you want to know what it is? Seriously, do you really want to know? Hee hee –  here it is: You are the CEO of your life. From the moment your brain wakes up for the day, you chose whether to get up, hit the snooze button, check your phone, or spend some quiet time with yourself planning your day. Believe it or not, we make over 35,000 choices a day. How many of those choices honor your dreams, your relationships, your ambitions? You may not believe this but you make every choice in your life. It’s easy to blame an employer, a spouse, the traffic. This diverts responsibility. You choose whether to compromise. You choose what to eat every day. You choose when to engage in social media. You choose how you want to treat people. You choose who you want to associate yourself with. You choose how to spend your time. You choose how you engage with other people. You choose how you treat yourself. (This is a big one!) In the world where we want to have more time for what we love, taking ownership for our choices is key. It’s hard to gulp down this responsibility. The more you choose what’s right for you, your dreams, your relationships, the better you will feel inside and out. What will you choose differently in 2018? I know I have a long list of how I will choose differently. What’s yours? Reply or PM me in social media to set-up a time to chat and get your 2018 started of right. Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day! Holiday Parties: From Boring to Exciting

Have you ever wondered how to make holiday parties more enjoyable? Sarah stands alone in the dimly lit corner of a room filled with holiday attendees. Sarah scans the room to see if she knows anyone. She was invited by the host who was busy greeting all the guests as they arrived. Sarah felt all alone despite being in a room filled with over 50 people. Sarah thought, what do I say? I don’t even know these people. Why did I even come? I came because I wanted to meet some new people. Sarah takes a deep breath and strolls over to the food table and grabs a little of each colorful and flavorful dish. She thought – maybe I can quickly eat and then roll out of here fast. Of course, that was not her intent in coming. Sarah looked across the room and caught a smile from a tall, dark handsome man on the other side of the room. He gently nodded and motioned for her to come join his conversation. Sarah took another deep breath, trying not to drop her plate, composed herself and walked to the group of 5 which seemed intimidating to her. It’s now or never she thought to herself. Deep breath again. Here I go. She asked each person in the group, “What’s been the best part of 2017?” Each person thought long and hard. They began to respond, “A new job”, “Getting engaged”, “Taking a 3 day yoga trip”. The group said, what about you, Sarah? Sarah gently looked up and in the eyes of each person and said, “Learning how to have meaningful conversations with complete strangers.” Each person in the group chuckled and said, you make us feel at ease around you. Sarah smiled and said, “It’s easy. Ask a more in-depth question and don’t ask – How are you?” This time of year, we can get careless in our conversations. We ask, “how are you?” as an informal greeting instead of a real question. If you really want to know someone better, ask a more in-depth question and share what your response is too. Here are 3 questions to get you going:
  • What’s been the best part of 2017?
  • What are you looking forward to in 2018?
  • What’s your big dream for 2018 and how can I support you in that endeavor?

What Your Obstacles and a Dark Alley Have in Common

Have you ever been familiar with a location and then it suddenly changed? This plays into how we look at life. I slowly navigated down a dark alley with uneven brick pavers, narrow high walls, closed colored doors, a trash pile and a random cow. A small light quickly approached and a motorcycle whizzes by my right side barely missing my arm. I’ve walked through this same alley every evening at 6pm, after sunset, on my way home. Yet tonight, something was different. Suddenly, the normal dark alley turned into fabrics of brilliant white and purple. The brick pavers were covered in bright green cloth. Bright lights sparkled on the silver plated food trays. Little did I know, I was about to walk through a wedding reception. Have you ever needed to shine light onto a dark part of your life? What do you see? Are you afraid to look? Maybe underneath the depths of darkness lay a beautiful, vibrant area of your life ready for light to be shined on it again. Or, perhaps it’s the best part of your life that desperately wants to be revealed with more depth and grandeur. As we shine light on our pain, we reveal a new perspective. Something hidden that we never knew about. It’s the awareness not the avoidance that brings the change we so eagerly want. Take the time and find new perspectives on situations or people that hold you back. It’s time to propel you forward. As we approach 2018, what area of your life deserves more sunshine? Let’s uncast this area together. Contact me for a short strategy session to unravel the mysteries of why this area is dark and how to shed more light on it.  Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!
