This causes pain

Chad excited for his promotion got to work early. His role of Director came with the pay raise and corner office he always desired. The extra money would allow for house upgrades his wife had been wanting for years. With enthusiasm setting the tone, Chad couldn’t wait to hold his first staff meeting and propose a vision for his department. One by one, his department colleagues came into work. Each brought a slight curious anticipation about what changes the new leader may make. Within thirty minutes of his last departmental colleague’s arrival, Chad’s stomach began to churn. He was reluctant to organize a meeting. He began to question whether his new direction would be right. Would his team fully embrace the direction shift he wanted to propose and implement. Given his emotional status, Chad thought it would be better tomorrow once everyone’s emotions settled down. Day by day, he kept putting the meeting off. Then, a week went by. Then, a month. Suddenly he was called into the Vice President’s office. The Vice President asked what the issue was in implementing the changes. Chad could barely look the VP in the eye. His words turned into a mumble on why he hesitated to implement. With anxiety worsening, Chad called in sick the next day. Hesitation causes pain. What’s one small step you can take today? What weeds in your life are growing this Spring?

Your garden of life blossoms and recedes as the season changes. The first rain drops of Spring grow not only your prior plants but also the weeds that blew over in the winter. As the nutrients and rain continue to flourish, both the plants and weeds grow. Soon, the weeds outgrow and multiple faster than plants. Suddenly your entire garden is covered with weeds. Ugh! The weeds are choking out your deep rich plants, the essence of your dreams. How does this happen? Left unchecked your dreams shrivel up unable to receive the nutrients to flourish. Every day we are either nourish our dreams or the weeds. With no boundaries, the weeds can easily take over. Weeds have deep roots. The longer they fester the deeper the root and the harder it is to remove them. They come as practices that no longer serve us. Lack of sleep, poor diet, little fun and connection to others. Each season serves as a pivot point. It’s time to assess what’s serving you and let go of what’s not. It’s time to dig deep and cut the weed roots off at the source. Remove the weeds and open the space to let your dreams flourish. Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day! Lora Polowczuk Chief Energy Officer © Priority Retreats International

The One Thing Most People Won’t Do to Have a Better 2019

Ever feel that you don’t get the results you want?  You put more effort in with no return on your time and energy. Year after year, Frank kept working harder for his next promotion. He worked more hours and still got passed up. He sacrificed time with his family to get the promotion to give his family more. Frank was annoyed. Getting passed up again for a promotion ripped his heart out. He couldn’t figure out what was going on. Frank got up the nerve to ask his boss, the VP of Project Management, Joan, and Human Resources,  “What are you looking for in a Director of Project Management?” Joan stood up and said, “let’s go for a walk Frank.  You certainly get projects completed on time and budget. Yet, there’s some big things missing. One, your team thinks you’re a slave driver. You’ve lost 20% of your staff which costs the company money to re-hire. Second, the quality of your work has gone down since you’ve ramped up your hours. Even your clients said that your late night emails are difficult to understand and can be very terse at times. We’ve considered putting you on probation.” Frank was dumbfounded and shocked. He had no clue. Joan said, “upper management is about the soft skills. It’s about employee retention and training where necessary. It’s great that your projects come in on time and budget but that’s only 50% of the role as a Director. If we lose clients because they don’t like your interactions that’s more costly to our bottom line.” Frank sighed. He agreed. He was unaware of the other expectations. Joan said, “all you had to do was ask.” He agreed again. “You can’t improve what you don’t measure.” Michael Hyatt I’m issuing you a challenge.
