Does Your Job Own You?

The Pew Research Center stated that 62% of fathers and 54% of mothers spend too little time with their kids due to work obligations. Whether or not you have kids, this is a staggering statistic. Even if you’re single, it means your job likely owns you and that you likely spend more time at work then, with people you love or doing something you love.

If this applies to you, keep reading.

What to do about this?

First, what do you consider an obligation? I mean really. Is checking your social media while working an obligation? I’m being serious here. It’s probably not.

Here’s what’s likely happening…

How you schedule your day is likely not aligned with your priorities. If I opened your calendar, right now, can I notice exactly what your priorities are? I’m serious. Did you schedule in that extra time you checked the news for no reason?

So, what are your top three priorities for today? This includes all aspects, work, friends/family relationships, health, etc. If kids are a top priority, do you pencil in where in your day that you’re spending time and contributing to their growth? Or, if it’s your health, scheduling in your gym time? If it’s a priority, that also means you can’t delete it.

The real question is, do you schedule your priorities?

First things, first. Schedule your top priorities. Stick to them. Don’t allow anything else to supersede them.

It’s not about your job obligations. It’s about you owning your time and priorities.

Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!
